Here is a winter sequence to give an idea of winter where I live. Its been mild so far by our standards and I've been appreciating more snow than last year. Still, we haven't come to the darkest day of the year yet.

This is the power plant center of Fairbanks. THe steem plume can tell you the temerature by its height. This would be around -10F. Our power comes from deisel fuel and coal mostly. This is across the valley to Ester Dome in the diatnce. My last cabin was at the foot of that Dome where the sun is shining. No better place have I lived for sun everyday, even all winter.
2:45 pm sunset mid november. Even downtown by the grocery store can look like nowhere in winter.....lol :-)

The moose don't disappear at all. They are found along the road like this any temperature.

She gave me a good hard look. She had a baby so I never got out of the car.

Last spring but here is a sundog, not unusual to see up here, caused by light refraction through ice crystals in the atmosphere, common cirrus and cirrus type clouds.

Here's a deep winter sundog I caught at lunch from work in town. This is noonday sun. And in november this is still higher than it will get dec 21st.

Sunrise at the cabin. Really great colors though I never see the sun directly any more at the house. Will be back mid january.

House just at dusk in november. I get christmas stuff out early.

Moon over my compas garden in the evening. This is in early november.

Same evening moon over the trees.

Moon over the house and lot. Shows my winter setting in.

Nightime full moon of november over compass garden. We look pretty socked in. I love the silence the snow can bring with it.

9:00 am sunrise. The east view at this cabin is wonderful every morning.

Mt Deborah, Hess or Hayes (not sure) in the morning light. These peaks of the Alaska range are seen from the road to town every morning clear enough. This is my favorite view spot.

Yep, morning at the cabin.....This is the earliest shot, mid october, light at 7am.

Morning sun in the trees 11am at the end of my road.

I'm keeping warm and enjoying the beauty of winter. It is the darkest of days now though, a little slow and sleepy would be an understatement. Thanks heavens for my indoor garden!
